Amelie

Amelie movie

Baby-crazy? Us? No way. Mom talks about our cute godson; we talk about our new Jimmy Choos. The boyfriend wonders about settling down; we wonder about dinner. So what a surprise when we felt the stirrings of the biological tick in (of all places!) a movie theater.

Hormones? No. Amelie. The sweetest thing to leave France since Petit Bateau tees, the movie took Paris by storm and swept the Toronto Film Festival. The latest from the team behind the deliciously weird Delicatessen, Amelie lands on our shores today at the Angelika and Paris theaters.

Amelie, as played by the irrepressible Audrey Tautou, is a goofy, romantic, shy, and outrageously clever ingenue. Think Emma (with better intentions and more imagination). Her boyfriend? Delish. Et calmez-vous, you cineastes: The acting, directing, cinematography, and editing are first-rate.

So while it’s probably too late to be Amelie, we’ll happily settle for having a daughter who’s just like her.

One day.
