Am I Blue? (Wait, Are You Blue?)
Blue and Blue Skirt Boutiques
Ever been fashion-Twinkied?
You show up at a cocktail party in your adorable new Dolce dress, only to run into Muffy (who works on the MoMA committee, too), who?s wearing the exact same Dolce dress.
It?s the curse of NYC: We all covet the same things at the same time.
Operation S.O.S.?Blue and Blue Skirt, two East Village boutiques run by Christina Kara, the Greek-born sartorial vixen who designed the wait staff?s uniforms at Pravda and Match. Both stores are filled with Yohji Yamamoto-esque styles: floor- and knee-length skirts in silk chiffons, bustle skirts (very Ava Gardner), dresses, gowns and so on.
For those truly paranoid about sartorial copycatting, Kara’s first op, Blue, focuses entirely on custom designs. It’s the perfect spot to find a wedding dress or sic your bridesmaids on.
And her latest addition, Blue Skirt, sells ready-to-wear and La Cosa (formerly Ripcosa) thongs, because, as Chloe Chung, the shopkeeper, says, “You simply have to have the right underwear to go under these skirts.”
Assuming, that is, you wear underwear.
