Her n. 1. A woman, usually perfect in too many ways to be likable (Rhodes scholar, philanthropist, ex-model, “and she’s sooooo sweet!”), who happens to be the ex of the man you currently date. (Men, swap gender and insert “Him.” You know the breed.)
Her n. 1. The new novel by Laura Zigman (author of the much-hyped Animal Husbandry), which hits stores this week. 2. The story of Elise, who finds a lovely boy to marry (a teacher — whom she met on a plane, no less! We should all be so lucky!). But then — curses, foiled again! — Adrienne, a/k/a Her, the gorgeous, perfect, skinny, French ex-fiancee, comes swooping into town, dressed to kill, and immediately gets cozy with the happy couple — as well as Elise’s two best friends.
What’s a nice, level-headed girl to do? Become a raving psycho stalker, of course.
At least that’s her fate in Her, a fast, fun read that’s ideal beach reading (if you can wait that long). Julia Roberts has already optioned the novel; Wendy Wasserstein is working on the screenplay. No word yet whether Julia will play Elise or Adrienne, but it’s a pretty sure bet that Julia will get her man.
The heroine always does, right?
