Whiney rock has its time and place.
But you can’t dance to bitter breakup dirges and anti-establishment anthems.
Scissor Sisters, a New-York-based band of disco-loving divas, provides a soundtrack for the lighter side. Opening with “Laura,” a tune that’ll get even the grumpiest curmudgeon tapping his toes, the band’s self-titled album takes the best of ’70s rock and injects it with hilarious irreverence. Track two, “Take Your Mama Out,” is all about a guy who takes his mom out for a night in the gay fast lane: You’d swear that Elton John had picked up the mic, slipped himself an upper, and hit the club scene. “Comfortably Numb” is a sort of house-style remake of the Pink Floyd original.
And if they can get you to dance to that, they clearly can do anything.
Scissor Sisters goes on sale nationwide on July 27, but you
can buy it now at Virgin Megastore or online at amazon.co.uk.
