Winter in L.A. Less a contradiction in terms than mildly ridiculous hyperbole.
Sure, it gets cooler and our open-toe shoes get less wear. But the true symbols of the season — snowmen, sleigh bells, puffy outerwear — remain, alas, the province of others.
For a taste of the season, turn to jackets from Obey clothing, designed by the same guy who created the Obey sticker campaign (you know, all those cryptic pictures of Andre the Giant that started to appear everywhere in the ’90s). They’re the perfect garment for L.A. winters. Made from lightweight quilted cotton and tweed, they are just warm enough to get you through those teeth-chattering low-50s days without overheating. Several of them even come with old-school faux-fur-edged removable hoods, which will certainly get you in a wintry frame of mind.
A warning, however: Unlike the Obey stickers, which seem to be in endless supply, the jackets are a one-shipment deal for the retailers who sell them. So don’t delay. Winter, after all, is just around the corner.
Or at least we can pretend.
