L.A. may be the self-indulgence capital of the galaxy, but you’re better. Rescuing animals. Donating those gently-used Sevens. Mentoring young girls. And you never, ever, under any circumstances spend a frivolous penny on yourself.

Yeah, we’re buying the martyr act.

Time to drop the charade. Wednesday, November 17 is Spa Day in Los Angeles (and up in San Fran — this one is a whole Cali thing), and it was made for your kind. Book an appointment at a participating spa (the list’s a mile-long) and 20 percent of whatever service you choose will be donated to Aid For AIDS in Southern California. Can’t get an appointment? Purchase a gift certificate instead — that revenue counts too. Whether it’s a massage, manicure, herbal wrap, bikini wax, facial, blow-out, or all of the above, you’ll be giving back while giving in to that very rare (ha) feeling of indulgence.

Doing something nice for others doesn’t have to mean depriving yourself. In this case, you’ve gotta take something to give something.
