Three's Company

Triptych Restaurant, Catering, and Gallery

There are countless worthwhile threesomes. Me, myself, and I. Mind, body, and spirit. Earth, wind, and fire. Never mind the unholy trinities you’d just as soon forget (gin, rum, and schnapps).

SoMa’s Triptych falls in that first category. Owners Kevin Trexler, David Kittredge, and Holly Milne have combined forces to create a restaurant/art gallery/catering company that harnesses the power of three.

Housed in the space that was formerly Patisserie Cafe, Triptych serves California cuisine with French and Mediterranean accents. Try the halibut or the savory beignets with salmon pate and chive olive oil. Or nosh sea bass fillet with blueberry balsamic glaze.

The interior reflects the neighborhood’s industrial-meets-artsy vibe. Local artists’ work adorns the small main dining room and continues down the long hallway-turned-art gallery that leads to the outdoor patio (your sunny new brunch spot). Silk banners billow from the ceiling beams. Handmade mosaics cover the main bar and patio tables. There’s even a disco bathroom.

It all comes together to form a threesome of the best kind — and one you won’t hesitate to take part in.

Triptych, 1155 Folsom Street, between 7th and 8th Streets (415-703-0557 or triptychsf.com).
