Meet Market

Urbanmarket Center Opens

There’s something quaint about finding love in the supermarket. Reaching for the same quart of juice … locking eyes over the deli counter … sheepishly meeting in the checkout line.

Sadly, your downtown address means schlepping to Plano for such encounters. Not to mention milk.

But no more. Now you can peruse the aisles for cuisine (and companionship) much closer to home. The newly open Urbanmarket, the neighborhood’s first full-service grocer in 15 years, has a salad bar and expansive produce, bakery, deli, and health and beauty departments. They even carry specialty products like Lavazza coffee and Nantucket rubs.

Try the cafe’s market club (turkey, ham, applewood smoked bacon, provolone, red leaf lettuce, and red onion on sourdough) and grilled Atlantic salmon (with lemon butter and served with roasted corn and wild rice pilaf). Or sip a fresh fruit smoothie while a chef prepares your made-to-order quesadilla.

The store is independently owned, which means the grocers work harder to get you what you want.

Though they draw the line at matchmaking. You’re still on your own there.

Urbanmarket, 1500 Jackson Street, in the Interurban Building, Downtown (214-741-3663 or urbanmarketdallas.com).
