Deciphering Chicago is a simple numbers game.
• 60622: yupsters in skinny jeans and Chucks carrying $600 bags.
• 60614: ex-Big Tenners who’ve traded letters for faux vintage tees and jobs at Starcom.
• 60611: Gold Coasters who haven’t realized that the city extends north of North and west of East Bank.
But 60640 (Swedish pastry loving girls), your number is up.
Andersonville is getting a culture shock with the addition of Estudiotres (Spanish for “studio three”), a River North (60610)-quality gallery featuring emerging local artists and established national talent. The gallery’s first exhibit, opening today, features the large-format photos of renowned New York photog Accra Sheppof.
In time, the 1,200-square-foot white space will also host video installations, assemblage, and performance art. Just the kind of exploratory shows that are worth a look-see.
Even if you have to (gasp) cross a neighborhood or two to get there.
Estudiotres, 5205 North Clark Street, at Foster Avenue (773-271-0533 or estudiotres.com). Opening reception tonight, 6 p.m.
