Most Valuable Kids All Star Day

What: Carnival fundraiser with rides, food, and sports at the home of Eunice and Sergant Shriver, to benefit local children’s organizations.
Why: Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for kids.
When: Sat., 1-4 p.m.
Where: 9109 Harrington Dr., at River Rd., Potomac.

Capital Pride Street Festival
What: D.C.’s largest street fest, with food, performances (including Kimberly Locke), and a dance party to support Whitman-Walker Clinic.
Why: It’ll be one loud, proud crowd.
When: Sun., 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m.
Where: Pennsylvania Ave. NW, b/t 3rd & 7th Sts.

SEE
“American Gothic”
What:
Catch Grant Wood’s most famous painting before it heads back to Chicago.
Why: You’re totally Goth.
When: Thurs.-Sun., 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Where: Renwick Gallery, 1661 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, at 17th St. (202-633-2850).

Driven Opening
What: Joint exhibit by Dana Ellyn and  Matt Sesow focuses on car culture.
Why: You won’t be driven to distraction.
When: Opening party, Fri., 6-9 p.m.; regular hours, Thurs.-Sat., noon-6 p.m. Thru July 1.

HEAR
The Dance Party, Alphabetical Order, Bound by Substance, The Sentiment
What:
Local bands rock out at the Velvet Lounge.
Why: People are talking.

Caramel Boutique

What: Stop in the brand new shop for clothing and accessories from Ravel, Sooki LA, Red Engine, and others before the big opening next week.
Why: It won’t get stuck in your teeth.
