The Strong Haul

Your Mobile Gym

Whether you knew it as The Big Cheese or Hell on Wheels, one thing’s for sure: The school bus will forever have a special place in your heart.

And this summer, certified personal trainer Lauren Loper has just the ticket for a dose of healthy nostalgia: a tricked-out workout bus she calls Your Mobile Gym.

Start with a written assessment of your attitude toward exercise. (According to Loper, “Yes, I love it!” and “No, why the hell do you think I called you?” are equally acceptable responses.) She then categorizes your body type as something like Friday Night Football (a swayed back with protruding tush) or Grandpa Butt (a tilted pelvis with shoulders that round forward) before designing your program.

The equipment is simple — dumbbells, body bars, resistance tubing, and even a removable stationary bike for clients who prefer to stay indoors. She calls her approach “progressive and systematic,” so you’re not likely to get the same workout twice.

We haven’t had this much fun on the bus since seventh grade.

And that certainly didn’t involve anything that was actually good for us.
