Best of 2006: Jewel Intentions

Bijoux Opens

It’s that time again — when we prepare to ring in the new by celebrating the best of the past year. So this week, we give you some of our favorite stories from 2006.

Newborn kittens, two-carat diamonds, 18th-century French emperors.

It’s the little things that have the most control over us.

Such is the case with Bijoux (French for “jewel”). Opening today, this chef-owned restaurant aspires to keep things small and quite simple.

Like the seasonal menu’s one-price-fits-all prix fixe approach. Diners can pick from three or five Gallic-inspired courses — the likes of roasted beef in pink peppercorn sauce, pan-roasted wild halibut, and a caramel chocolate mille-feuille (with ganache, caramel, and fleur de sel).

The uncomplicated-yet-elegant decor keeps the attention on the service, so expect plain white table linens, German crystal, and French china. It all works together to ensure you see the big picture.

Which, under the circumstances, is no small feat.

Bijoux, 5450 West Lovers Lane, Inwood Village (214-350-6100).
