Fare Well

FareStart Restaurant Opens

Whether picking kickball teams or waiting at the water fountain, you were taught to play fair.

So how’d you end up stealing parking spaces and cheating on expenses?

Get a refresher course in goodness at FareStart. After years of making do with a cramped, outdated space, the nonprofit — which trains the homeless for work in the food service industry and delivers meals to shelters and low-income day care centers — unveils its new restaurant today.

Stop by for lunch entrees like blackened salmon sandwiches and flat-iron steak. Or reserve a seat on Thursday nights, when culinary stars (like Matt’s in the Market’s Matt Janke and The Harvest Vine’s Joseph Jimenez de Jimenez) prepare three-course meals for under $25.

Either way, you’ll be helping your fellow Seattleites get a fair shot.

And if someone tries to beat you to the door, you know what to say.

No cuts, no butts, no coconuts.

FareStart Restaurant, 700 Virginia Street, at Seventh Avenue (206-443-1233 or farestart.org).
