An Angel Among Us

Imerman Angels

First it was cars. Next, a pile of her favorite things. And then her piece de resistance: a leadership school for young girls in South Africa.

No one can out-Oprah Oprah.

But if anyone’s up to the task, it’s Jonny Imerman. After winning his own battle with testicular cancer, Imerman wanted to give other cancer patients what he craved most during his experience: a connection with someone who had lived through similar trauma.

And so Imerman Angels was born. A Chicago-based nonprofit, it matches up cancer fighters with cancer survivors. Pairings are based on age, sex, location (he’s gone international), status (married, single, children), and type of cancer. The idea is that the two can meet up, talk, and support each other through the entire process.

There are more than 110 fighters searching for their matches, so Imerman Angels is looking to add to their band of volunteers.

Talk about an angel network.
