You know how brothers are. Give one a toy truck, the other one’s gotta have one, too.
This dynamic put chef Robert Wiedmaier — who named his first restaurant, Marcel, after his older son — in an awkward position.
But don’t worry; he’ll even the score tomorrow when he opens the doors to Brasserie Beck, the new spot named after the younger son.
Like Marcel’s, the new French joint has delicious food and attentive service, but it’s more casual and less expensive (hey, siblings have their differences).
The menu puts a Flemish twist on French fare: Congolese duck, choucroute en croute, and crispy skate wing, as well as house-made fries, a selection of Belgian cheeses, and a raw bar.
Score a table by the open kitchen, opt for a cozy booth by a window, or grab a seat at the bar (to try one of the 45 beers).
And if you go with your brother, just tell them you’ll have what he’s having.
