There are two kinds of restaurant customers: Those whose finicky tastes make ordering a Herculean ordeal (hold the bacon, cheese, and anything remotely flavorful) and those who crave nothing more than adventure (Chef’s choice? Hells yeah).
If you reside behind door number two, you’ll want to hit Kappo, Fremont’s itsy-bitsy new Japanese joint, opening today.
Chances are you’ve been fed by owner and head chef Taichi Kitamura in the past (he trained at Shiro’s and I Love Sushi before opening Chiso). But the ultra high-end omakase meals at his pet project are a whole different ballgame.
The intimate space fits only fifteen per night — all around Kitamura’s chef station, where only the best cuts of fish make it from stove to plate.
The menu changes constantly, with items like steamed Japanese unagi, pan-seared Kobe beef, sauteed Puget Sound geoduck, and still-sizzling tempura. You eat whatever suits Kitamura’s fancy.
And that’s an order.
Kappo, 701 North 36th Street, suite 200 (206-547-0937).
