A slice of Grandma’s apple pie is just about the only thing that makes you feel like a kid again.

That and an old-fashioned romp in the snow.

Take yourself less seriously with the home-baked goodness of Pie Bakery & Cafe in Newton Center. The all-pie provider puts out dozens of slices, sweet and savory, to eat in or take away.

There’s a daily potpie special (the chicken is a sellout) and ethnic handhelds like spanakopita, plus sweet selections that run the gamut from banana cream to pecan. Soups and hand pies like turkey cheddar are on the lunch menu, along with everyday sandwiches (we killed the chicken salad with cranberries in a minute).

Munch on a knish while observing the pie process from the dessert bar overlooking the open kitchen. And taking an individual shepherd’s pie home?

A piece of cake.
