Clay for Keeps

Sara Paloma Pottery

Having your life go to pot isn’t always a bad thing.

Case in point: Getting laid off from her animation job gave Emeryville ceramicist Sara Paloma time to play with clay. Turns out she’s really good at it.

Drawing inspiration from architecture and nature, her shapely stoneware bottles and vases recall simple Arts and Crafts era pottery. Pretty dark-edged bone votives resemble delicate petals, while carved details like bird’s wings poking out from a white vessel teeter on the surreal.

She’s adding cups, bowls, and plates to her collection. Swing by her studio sale April 19-20 to score samples and seconds and to see what’s next.

Try to contain yourself.

Available at Propeller, 555 Hayes Street, between Octavia and Laguna Streets (415-701-7757); Spring, 2162 Polk Street, between Broadway and Vallejo Streets (415-673-2065). Studio sale, April 19-20, noon-4 p.m., 4333 Holden Street, studio 54, Emeryville. For more information, go to sarapaloma.com.
