When it comes to adding flourish to your wardrobe, you’re one to pile it on. But last week’s black-tie episode had your bejeweled stilettos catching the hem of your beaded, floor-length gown, sending you crashing into the auctioneer.

Take simpler cues from Danish-born, London-based designer Louise Amstrup, who has trained under the likes of Alexander McQueen. Her couture-inspired spring line (available only in Boston) combines sharp tailoring with whimsical touches of embellishment.

Her signature suit pairs a fluted jacket with a zipper-detailed pencil skirt. The white flowered collar blouse and silky tank dress in fuchsia or blue are ultra feminine, while one bustier number features voluminous folds on the hips.
