Kids are showing up everywhere. There’s even a baby at your brother’s apartment (though you’re not convinced it’s his). On Sunday, let’s honor the poppas — old, new, and dubious.
An Oldie but a Goodie
Oh, Gramps. That hair? Those nails? The ’stache? (Well, the ’stache is kinda cool.) But the rest needs a revamp. Grandad will love the RazzleDazzle Barbershop in Coral Gables. The cuttery is a throwback to the ’40s: checkered floors, groomers in vests and bow ties, crystal chandeliers. Take him for a straight razor shave, a buzz cut, or a $1-per-minute neck massage.
Too Cool to Have Kids in School
It’s not that you don’t love your bro’s ’88 Super Bowl Champs tee, but his wardrobe could use an update — or a backdate, in this case. Recently opened vintage boutique ShopBar has a pool table, full bar (three drinks for $10), turn tables, and a Wii console (inside BlackSheep Bar, 721 North Lincoln Lane, South Beach; 305-531-7700). He can pick from classic dress shirts from Bill Blass, shiny jackets by Christian Dior, or old-school Levi’s. Better still: You can browse Yves Saint Laurent, Missoni, and the like while he tries to best the record on Super Mario Bros.
Pop-Up Menu
Your dad wants meat and potatoes; you want haute cuisine. Treat him to the spectacular Greek resto Eos (from the peeps behind NY’s Anthos) on the fifteenth floor of the Viceroy. Designed by wunderkind Kelly Wearstler, the impressive space (high-back leather chairs, nook-like banquettes, oversize chandeliers) is matched by the food (don’t miss the lamb chops and creative sashimi tapas). For Father’s Day, they’re doing a la carte brunch: Dads who mention DailyCandy get free steak and eggs and a specialty cocktail.
All you need to bridge the generation gap.
