Make your way to Cop Copine of Paris, the avant-garde French design house opening its first Stateside store on Union Square tomorrow. The stylized boutique’s crisp, mod interior (white with gray accents) is enough to brighten your day.

The selection of outerwear marries form and function — as do other cutting-edge items from the fall ’09 collection. Witness, for example, Mad Max, a belted number, which transcends the typical trench with its technical cloth and slick, rubber texture. Heat-seekers will covet a black, Italian-made, boiled wool coat that’s remarkably soft and warm due to the felting process used to create it.
