The Bar That Vander Built

The Vanderbilt Restaurant and Bar Opens

the vanderbilt!

House building is a family affair.

Just ask the Vanderbilts. Or The Vanderbilt, the eagerly anticipated Prospect Heights hang from Ben Daitz (Num Pang) and his mentor Saul Bolton (Michelin-starred Saul).

They’ve created a big, homey spot that opens today, outfitted in gray barn wood, a white marble bar, and reclaimed lights that are more industrial than opulent. Daitz decorated with vintage farm tools from his parents’ basement in Maine; one of the well-mixed cocktails is named after the bartender’s great aunt (see: Glyda Rose — Campari, gin, champagne, blood orange).

The menu is for sharing. Brussels sprouts (sriracha, lime honey), smoky fried chicken wings, homemade jerky, and crispy pig tails fight for your attention among grilled pork chops (with Parisian gnocchi), apple turnovers, and homemade jelly doughnuts.

Could be the makings of a family feud.
