Party Animals
She will pig, er, flip out if you surprise her with a Royal Dandie itty-bitty oinker. If doggy style is more her thing, gift her with a cheeky tote or a copy of Dogs in Vogue.
Get Digi with It
Just because she’s a nerd face doesn’t mean she lacks sophistication. This camcorder is high on both. Nothing says fancy pants like a gold camera in a quilted leather case. Or if she’s more retro, Fujifilm’s instant camera looks modern but churns out Polaroid-like photos. And make sure her laptop is sleeved in style.
Carry Her Home
Ladybird’s monogrammed bag is the perfect medium between a chic Goyard and an L.L.Bean tote. Mutitaskers will appreciate a wallet that doubles as a clutch for evening. And for weekend getaways: a classic bag.
Biker Babes

Feeling Groovy
Stylish and yogi are not mutually exclusive, and this pretty mat bag proves it. Add a little feel-good to her life with Stella McCartney’s Product Red tee. Keep her hippie dippiness under wraps with cute horoscope underpants.
Homebody Special

You gotta be kidding me with that comment. People should be responsible for the information they choose to promote, so yes, it is Daily Candy's "fault" for promoting this. By promoting such things, you are directly supporting it. It's wrong, period, to sell miniature pigs as holiday gifts, when most people will buy them on a whim and then discard them as soon as they realize they have bought a pig, which will lead to their deaths most likely. It really is a shame that individuals like you can't see the basic cruelty in this. How about we start selling little people as holiday gifts???
Posted by macgregor on Dec 16, 2009 10:12:19 AM
These comments are ridiculous. While you are stomping around in your Ugg boots (real fur), cozying up in your down comforter (goose fur) and cinching up that new cool belt (no, not fur, they took the fur off with a caustic chemical to get to the leather), consider the fact that it takes one gallon of oil to make three throw away crap polyester/nylon/fleecy shirts that will never biodegrade--made in a country that does not respect human rights. Would you plant your garden outside one of these factories or fish in a river near one of these poison spewing plants--didn't think so. Daily Candy, thank you for understanding that it is the buyer's decision whether or not to buy a piglet. Consider that most of these comments are not from readers, but from people who have been tipped off from animal rights sites to write in. Understand that the HSUS (Humane Society of US) kills more animals than any furrier per year and think pet ownership is wrong. (Local humane societies are not the same as HSUS.) And PETA? They'd prefer to exploit women than animals.

I hope that in the future you will consider the influence you have on your readers. Suggesting to buy a piglet when 6-8 million stray dogs and cats enter animal shelters annually, 3-4 million of which are euthanized - sometimes in gas chambers where it takes more than 20 minutes to die â?? is irresponsible and disregarding a serious problem that exists in the US and beyond. Please consider your choices and effects you have on subscribers in the future. (SOURCES: 1. When I first read this bit about giving piglets for gifts, I thought it was some sort of bad joke. Sadly, because of this article, many people will probably purchase these piglets. The blame lies on Daily Candy for the lives those piglets are forced to lead as chihuahua substitutes for those who need attention. Very disappointed in Daily Candy.
Posted by bitterwonder on Dec 11, 2009 7:56:12 PM
I expected more from Daily Candy than to endorse the giving of animals as gifts. It is cruel to subject a living being to the whims of fashion. Daily Candy shouldknow better and print a retraction.
Posted by friendsofanimals on Dec 11, 2009 2:10:49 PM
The Daily Candy's endorsement and support of live animal sales is appalling. All animals should be spared the torment of being bought and sold as gifts. Isn't it bad enough that we have domesticated canines and felines? These animals are flooding rescues and shelters, taxing these facilities beyond their limits. Now we will have piglets that will eventually find themselves in these places, where they may be put to death like the thousands of animals are every year. Is your current advertising income so low that you had to resort to taking blood-money from this breeder? Anai Rhoads, Friends of Animals http://www.friendsofanimals.org

We urge your company to end the sale of piglets and any other animals. Shelters are severely overcrowded and forced to euthanize on a daily basis. Some U.S. shelters still use gas chambers for euthanasia. Many rescues, big and small, have also reached capacity. Please make the humane decision and end the sale of live animals.

As an animal rescue organization that currently cares for abandoned, neglected, and abused animals from across the United States and Canada, we're astonished that a quality communication vehicle like Daily Candy would promote (complete with links for purchase) the purchase (and, quite likely, eventual neglect) of intelligent animals like the miniature piglets. Please remove this item from your "must have" list as, with each day it is promoted, more animals will likely suffer, all while another animal-mill profits.

Completely vile. Way to endorse abandoning animals DailyCandy.
Posted by freeoto on Dec 8, 2009 4:24:41 PM
To promote the idea that ANY animal should be given to someone as a gift is a major mess-up on the part of DailyCandy's writers and editors. Animals (of all species) require constant love and care. To give them as gifts just helps contribute to the overcrowding of animal shelters once the novelty of the animal wears off and the new owner realizes just how much work they have to put into taking care of the animal. Check out this article to read about why pigs inparticular don't deserve to be bought on impulse or gifted to unwitting recipients: http://blog.peta.org/archives/2009/10/paris_hilton.php

Did you list the pig specifically so PETA would make a big deal over it and get your blog some press? Pathetic.

Wow, can we all be like Paris Hilton now and adopt an "itty bitty oinker"? Is this who we should aspire to be like, DC? I am a longtime subscriber, and will now cancel. Unbelievable! You have shown just how out of touch you are by promoting an animal as an accessory. From now on, I am sticking w/Girlie Girl Army, Ecostiletto, and Your Daily Thread because come to think of it, I cannot remember one last cruelty-free or compassionate thing you have done (although, I know u like to throw in some trendy green thing every once and a while, w/o actually walking the walk!). Done w/you! Have fun w/your coldhearted superficial minions! PS-y'all should really do a retraction. You are beyond out of touch!

DC I adore you in every way, but come on- gifting pigs?! Oy vey.
Posted by notspiderman on Dec 8, 2009 11:23:19 AM
Everyone bitching about the pig in this little thread should board a rocket that explodes half way to the moon. Correcting the wrongs of the world one self-righteous comment at a time, no doubt. However, I think itâ??s RIDICULOUS and IRRESPONSIBLE to promote leather bicycle saddles and clutches! Shame DC! Do you have any idea how many innocent animals were butchered to produce these excesses?
Posted by OhApril on Dec 8, 2009 10:24:45 AM
I, like so many others here, am APALLED that you list piglets as a gift. I love DC and I adore pigs - but what were you guys thinking?! That's incredibly dumb & IRRESPONSIBLE. And, I don't care how small the breeder thinks the pigs will stay, it's BS. There is a huge issue right now with unwanted pigs because - guess what - piglets grow up into adult pigs and then all the stupid people who bought them don't know what to do with them or how to take care of them. Furthermore, a live animal, even a domesticated animal like a dog or a cat, is a sentient being - not a "holiday gift" to be wrapped and given away. Adopting a pet is a serious matter that should not be treated lightly. It's a huge commitment for the life of that animal. Please don't "gift" any animal. The recipient of that "gift" may not be prepared for all the responsibility that comes with properly taking care of and nurturing it. If you are ready to adopt, please go to your local shelter and adopt a loving and grateful animal. (Yes, you can even adopt a pig if you choose to! There are plenty of available pigs & piglets up for ADOPTION.) There are already MILLIONS of unwanted pets in the U.S. who get euthanized simply because there are not enough homes for them. It's tragic! Never pay someone to pimp out animals to bring unwanted animals into this world just so they can make a quick buck. A great gift?...instead of encouraging people to buy the trendy new piglet accessory (animals are not accessories!) - recommend that your readers make a donation to a shelter or rescue group.
Posted by jlh269 on Dec 8, 2009 10:07:30 AM
I am horrified that Daily Candy would recommend buying a pet at all as a gift, let alone a pig. There are needy animals in shelters all over the country, including pigs, awaiting homes. Millions of animals are euthanized each year b/c they don't get homes. You should be advising people to visit their local shelters or search for animals on petfinder.com. I will certainly be unsubscribing after this ridiculous and irresponsible recommendation to your readers.
Posted by Tonya15 on Dec 8, 2009 9:59:47 AM
Millions of homeless animals need to be adopted and you guys are promoting the purchase of mini pigs??? Shame on Daily Candy!! You should be promoting adoption & sponsorship of the animals who need it. Not helping to fund a company who is only interested in lining their pockets & not the well being of these poor pigs. Use your brains people & think outside the box - Don't let corporate scum marketing brainwash you into thinking this is an ok thing to do!
Posted by beegoodnow on Dec 8, 2009 9:58:04 AM
UGGGHHHHH WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!?!? I just checked out the pig lady's site.... she breeds these innocent animals and then SHIPS them after you pay THOUSANDS of dollars to her greedy hands. AND she won't spay or neuter them until AFTER someone has PAID a deposit. WHY would you promote this woman? The world is overflowing with animals who people buy as gifts and then get dumped as soon as the holidays are over. NEVER buy animals!! There are so many on death row to be adopted!!! Using animals as a means of making money NEVER works out for the animals in the end.... it only fuels the GREED of the people selling them.
Posted by danaW on Dec 8, 2009 9:54:25 AM
I CAN NOT believe you are endorsing pigs as gifts. This is how animals wind up homeless! Totally irresponsible on your part. I suggest you remove that part of the article IMMEDIATELY! Disgusting

I can't believe Daily Candy would endorse such a thing. Pigs as gifts? You should immediately take this entry off and repost something that apologizes for its thoughtlessness. Disgusting. Will be unsubscribing to Daily Candy for sure.

I'm usually a HUGE fan of DC-but you really think buying live pigs as gifts is a good idea when MILLIONS of animals die annually in shelters across the country?!?!?!?! wow...
Posted by shazzerg on Dec 8, 2009 8:39:48 AM
Seriously? You are recommending guys surprise their girls with a live pig? What happens to that sweet pig when the holidays are over? Bad idea Daily Candy, you might want to post something about animal rescue to make up for this big time blunder.
Posted by GirlieGirlArmy on Dec 8, 2009 8:35:39 AM
Just when I think Daily Candy can't sink any lower in terms of unethical promotions... you go and do it again. LIVE BABY PIGS AS HOLIDAY GIFTS? Real compassionate, dingbats. These animals are SENTIENT beings who will probably end up in dog or cat food once Fifi or Paris Hilton is done playing with it for 10 minutes and realizes it's a REAL responsibility. SHAME ON YOU for using your platform to HURT the animals. Shame, shame, shame. Good thing the 300,000 readers of GirlieGirlArmy know we'd never promote buying or breeding live animals. ADOPT ADOPT ADOPT!

The fact that you are not only endorsing but are actually ENCOURAGING the purchase of live animals as a gift suggestion is not only irresponsible, but is morally reprehensible. This information has been passed along to approximately 1680 fashion and shopping-savvy Facebook friends, and just so you're aware, as long as you continue to advertise this disgusting and ridiculous shopping "suggestion", your site will be boycotted and Daily Candy will be getting a HORRIFICLY bad name. You know the addage, a bad experience spreads quickly...this will be "news" on the MySpace and Facebook pages of thousands essentially overnight. What an immature and absolutely vile way to attempt to sell your "holiday gift ideas". If you had REAL and creative product ideas, you wouldn't have to resort to the suggestion of live animals. The HSUS and ASPCA chapters of several cities have been notified and are now closely monitoring what you print/post on this site, and trust me, your sales numbers will reflect the poor and ignorant choice you've made to advertise animals as gift ideas. 'Pathetic...desperate...and HARDLY a creative concept. 'Enjoy the well-deserved backlash that you'll continue to see on your comment boards...

How shocking promoting the giving of live animals as pets. This is so irresponsible and will once again result in the exploitation and abuse of animals. Each and every second animals suffer at the hands of our greedy, selfish species. Millions of dogs, cats, horses, rabbits and other animals lose their lives daily due to a lack of homes and irresponsible breeding - do we have to add pigs to that? Shame on you!!

Posted by violetk on Dec 7, 2009 1:09:32 PM
wow, i'm really appalled that you would encourage animal salesâ??especially what looks to be one that appears to purposely breed a species into "extreme" miniature form, much like designer dogs. the decision to own and care for a pet should be considered carefully, but, unfortunately, is often done cavalierly which is why animal shelters are filled with unwanted animals who are given up after their owners capriciously decide they don't want to deal with the pet anymore. encouraging the sale and gifting of these pigs will only lead to an influx in shelters in the future when they are no longer wanted. again, i'm really appalled with you, daily candy.

I am astonished at both DC and some of the comments I've read... It is literally inconceivable as to how one would ever CONSIDER promoting an idea of this nature! It saddens me deeply to think there is still so much educating that has to be done. When we disrespect someone else or another being of any kind, including the planet, we do DIRECT damage to ourselves. The people that I know who support change in humanity all wear FAUX uggs, own organic cotton, hemp, and bamboo clothing, jackets, and linens, support sustainability, and buy organic & local food... DC made their choice... we all make our choices... sometimes one is unaware of the fact they are creating their own demise... take a look around... its quite obvious.
