Modern Cooperative Opens in Pilsen

Curated vintage decor for your home

modern cooperative!

After working like dogs at their marketing jobs, Tiffany Paige and Mike Biersma pressed paws.

Tonight marks the grand opening of their new venture, Modern Cooperative, a vintage furniture and accessories store in the heart of their Pilsen hood.

The couple (and their Chihuahua, Joplin) rummaged through estate sales, thrift shops, and flea markets around the Midwest and down South to cull a selection of gems: midcentury modern Danish credenzas, Knoll chairs (some reupholstered by Paige), Herman Miller benches, George Nelson end tables, and 1960s industrial lab cabinets.

Accessories — rustic German wine chests, glassware, bar sets, posters, sunburst clocks — add color and quirk to the 1,000-square-foot space.

Each month showcases local artists (currently, Modified Originals and Emmy Star Brown).

It’s the whole canine yards.

Modern Cooperative, 818 West 18th Street, at Newberry Avenue (312-226-8525 or moderncooperative.com), $25-$1,200. Opening party, tonight, 5-10 p.m.
