Fun Things to Do for $10 or Less

Be a cheap date

atlanta on a budget!

As much as you love drinks at the St. Regis, dinner at Bacchanalia, and suites at Phillips Arena for Justin Timberlake, Atlanta has plenty of cheaper thrills. Dive into these options for a Hamilton or less and bring sexy thrifty back.

1. Why bike the BeltLine on your ten-speed when you can wheel around with friends in a Surrey (read: quadricycle with bench seats)? Rent one at Atlanta Beltline Bicycle for $10 an hour or $40 for the day (they hold up to four people). Tip: Be sneaky and make it a booze cruise.

2. Grab your Pink Ladies and T-Birds (or just your Danny) for a night at the drive-in. The Starlight Six Drive-In is $8 for two flicks (read: half the price of a regular theater for double the movies) and you can take snacks and beverages in the comfort of your own Greased Lightning.

3. Explore galleries and the great outdoors for free. Start the weekend with the Castleberry Hill Art Stroll (second Friday of the month) or Old Fourth Ward’s Fourth Fridays Art Walk in Studioplex, or venture to the heart of Downtown for First Thursdays Art Walk.

4. You don’t have to be an ankle biter to appreciate puppets (especially Jim Henson’s famous ones). On Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m., admission to the Center for Puppetry Arts (includes all exhibits) is free. Say hi to Kermit for us.

5. Happy hour is even happier when it’s free at 3 Parks Wine Shop. Pop into the charming Glenwood/Ormewood/Grant Park outpost for a tasting of three to four bottles every Wednesday (5:30-7:30 p.m.). Keep the indulgence going at neighboring The Shed at Glenwood with $4 mini desserts.

6. Too-cheap-to-be-true booze and food deals happen all over the city daily. For a limited time (through February, possibly March) at Tin Lizzy’s Emory Point, $2 gets you a taco or a Dos Equis — on a Saturday. Cucina Asellina is your after-work savior (and saver) with $3 draft brews and $5 bar bites (including the stuffed olives and veal meatballs) every Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. We’ll drink to that.
