Altar’d State of Mind

Mercy invites. Whalebone bustiers. Something about weddings makes a girl want to lose it.

Not this year. Whether you’re a DIY bride (control freak hell-bent on dictating every detail) or a subsidized one (milking that last shot at parental cash), DailyCandy will help keep the crazies away.

Planning
DIY:  Swing by the free wedding library at Event Perfect, where they also book one-day emergency planners — think of them as the wedding SWAT team (1052 St. Charles Place; 404-870-5911).

Subsidized: Call April at Eventologie, a boutique event planning firm so meticulous that they only book fifteen weddings a year (404-589-9151).

bluorchid!Invitations
DIY: The just-revamped Paper Parlour (3495 Buckhead Loop, suite 212; 877-642-5198) is still the only place in Atlanta that does its own thermography (lightning-fast turnaround). Plus, professional ribbon-tiers Kem and Dina are totally fun to watch.

Subsidized: Amber Renee at Bluorchid is your deputy wedding planner, able to corset lace invitations to match your gown or design save-the-date cards made of beveled glass (770-991-4100).

Hair and Makeup
DIY: Schedule a class with Pandora Golden of Chameleon Cosmetics for expert lessons in her sunny Virginia Highlands shop. She’ll tweak your makeup for free if you tan over time or need more tint (1054 St. Charles Avenue; 404-685-9868).

Subsidized: The Hope Smith Agency does editorial and fashion photo shoots nationwide. They can handle you for a day (770-403-1543).

anne barge!Gown
DIY: Kelly’s Closet in Candler Park carries beautiful gowns from L.A., Paris, and Australia. Plus, they’ve got a handful of unexpected bridesmaid options from old faves (1649 McLendon Avenue; 404-377-9923).

Subsidized: Anne Barge’s showroom at the Four Seasons just got even more exclusive. We love, love her hot, haute Black Label collection (75 Fourteenth Street, suite 2710; 404-873-8070).

Bridesmaids
DIY: Recently picked up by Saks, local producer-turned-designer Elyssa Bass’s custom designs will have your bridesmaids humming down the aisle. She’ll also incorporate aspects of each maid’s personality into final pieces.

Subsidized: Morningside’s Saeyoung Vu (1049-f North Highland Avenue; 404-541-9066) has frocks and bags that could put a bride to shame.

zoom works!Photographer
DIY: Disposables on the table never lead us astray for truly candid memories. Once you’ve developed your photos, take them to ZoomWorks for a custom album (770-971-6022).

Subsidized: With spreads for After Hours Formalwear and Tommy Hilfiger under his belt, photog Thomas Fahey is known for taking wedding pics that come out looking even better than the real thing (404-875-9390).

Stick with DailyCandy and you’ll be covered — in something other than a straitjacket.
