Who wears short shorts?
• Buxom blondes in hick-chic music videos.
• Your iPod-wearing Zifty driver last night. (Holy hot pants, Deliveryman.)
• You, come summertime. (Cue incredulous “pshaw” sounds now.)
The things have come around faster than Teri Garr at a 1972 roller rink. So be it. We’ve just discovered a gold mine: Aoki’s new denim shorts.
The ecofriendly label made its quiet entrance at Bella Azul this year. And once we shimmied into the prototype for spring’s ripped-up-the-side Madison long shorts (cause for an immediate “why didn’t we think to do that to our own jeans?” moment) it became clear that much more (or less, rather) could be in store.
This month, Aoki debuted varied versions of the season’s staple. The trouser-style Shortie, for instance, has flat-front pockets, gold seams, and sharp-as-toast cuff pleats; while the Hot Mamma is all short, all stretch, and all of what your mother gave you.
By latest accounts, the best stuff to be caught shaking any day.
Available at Bella Azul, 1011 Marietta Street, West Atlanta (404-249-9150); Scribbles Couture, 1860 Duluth Highway, building 200, Lawrenceville (678-225-0072).
