There comes a time when you realize you’ve grown up. Your taste is sharper. You pay bills on time. (Well, mostly.) And your old stomping grounds start to feel sandbox size.

In art dealer Gregg Irby’s case, it happened when Irby looked around her stately Buckhead home and saw her private gallery covering every inch of it. So she grew not just up but out. Found a quaint old Sunday school house not too far away and converted it into a cozy public space, which is opening tonight.

There you’ll find emerging artists and New American Paintings faves (like Erin McIntosh) showcasing their latest works. About once a month, Irby will host a wine-and-cheese event for the featured artist. The art will be priced to please most any budget; artists that normally sell for $2,000 and up give Irby smaller $60 drawings.

Which, incidentally, should help make that whole paying-bills-on-time thing much easier.

Gregg Irby Fine Art, 3725 Powers Ferry Road, building a, behind Sardis Methodist Church, Buckhead (404-259-8224 or greggirbyfineart.com). Opening reception tonight, 6-10 p.m.
