When you were a kid, fashion was simple. Shoes didn’t belong on particular feet; pockets were made for stashing pretzels.
But since then, children’s clothes have seriously grown up. Evidence: the refined pieces at Cayenne, a new children’s boutique opened by former Atlanta hair stylist Kevin Payne and pal Lynne Bell.
They carry the styles you’d find at neighboring adult shops like T. and Lena Larose: Pint-sized Joe’s, Chip & Pepper, and Antik Denim line the low shelves. The tiny cashmere dresses by Nutmeg, baby ballet skirts by French line Lola et Moi, and well-edited extras (from lipgloss rings to empire-waist maternity frocks in graphic prints) will appeal to even the most mature tastes.
But it’s not at all uptight: a low-maintenance play area, kid art, and a crystal chandelier make this one whimsically sophisticated shopping experience.
And there’s nothing small-minded about that.
