Mulling microclimes and tannins while swilling Cape red has never been your scene. And you can’t even hear the word “oenophile” without squirming.
Still, though liquor is quicker (and beer often nearer), wine remains your sip of choice.
Newly opened Brix Wine Merchant is the spot for you. Former Bacchanalia sommelier Scott Shackelford and his wife, Joanna, have created a sunny place where wine selection is not a pretentious ordeal.
Shackelford tastes and selects every vintner — and he’s just as happy to talk you through an $8 riesling as an ’82 Bordeaux. In a rush? Sections are color coded using a layman-friendly system (bubbly? juicy? smooth?), and the store also stocks bags, party buckets, and glasses.
Add some upbeat house music in the background, and you’ve got a truly intoxicating prospect.
No matter what your flavor.
Brix Wine Merchant, 1230 Caroline Street, suite b250, Edgewood Retail District (404-525-4098 or brixwinemerchant.com).
