They say a picture’s worth a thousand words. Experience, however, suggests otherwise (Glamour Shots, the DMV, the society photog who shoots you with your eyes half closed).
Things should start clicking with candid portraiture and photography by Meghan McNeer.
The Tulsa native studied psychology and studio arts at Emory and has been snapping with a Holga for as long as she can remember.
Invite her over for a private shoot and put the sailor suits and fake grins away. Her style is so subtle, you’ll soon forget she’s there.
Or, if you’re shy, just buy one of the pictures in her similarly understated debut show, which starts tonight. She takes the mundane (rusty Atlanta sinks; pristine Oklahoma cotton fields; her scruffy boyfriend, Andrew) and turns it into something you’ll want to put on your wall.
So you won’t be left hanging.
Exhibit through March 31, at Aurora Coffee, 992 North Highland Avenue, Virginia Highland (404-892-7158). Artist reception tonight, 6:30-10 p.m. Meghan McNeer (meghan.mcneer@gmail.com or meghanmcneer.com).
