Cabbagetown has had quite a ride. Mill shuts down. Workers relocate. Cabbage markets close. Workers return. Loft-induced gentrification, renovation, and hipification ensues.
Man, all that turmoil really works up an appetite.
So Cabbagetowners rallied, and former caterer Lisa Hanson and Maria Locke (Watershed) heeded their cries with Cabbagetown Market.
Oh, the workers were hungry — but not for just any old leafy greens. They wanted locally grown veggies. And homemade pies. And grass-fed beef.
The owners stocked the 1920s storefront with organic carrots, Bariani olive oil, farm-fresh eggs, and palate-pleasing goodies (this week, it’s homemade Mexican wedding cookies). A lunch counter serves juicy burgers and sides like their famous fried pickles to happy passersby.
Ah, peace at last.
