Atkins? Actually, you’ll pass. South Beach? You prefer Laguna. The Zone? Been steering clear of that for years.
Finally, a regimen worth getting your behind behind: the 100-Mile Diet. Based on the new book of the same name (released first in Canada and now in the U.S. as Plenty), the eating plan supports local agriculture and aims to make followers more conscious of their buying and eating habits.
The sole premise? You can eat only stuff grown within a 100-mile radius of your home. And, no, that doesn’t include sodas bottled down the street (all too easy to come by in this town). Rather, consider the source of the produce, meat, and prepared meals with which you stock your fridge.
Try it for a week or stick with it for a year like the authors did. (And, yes, they both lost a few lbs. in the process.)
Either way, you’ll have a newfound appreciation for the food on your plate — and the people who helped put it there.
And that’s more than worth its weight.
