Doin’ the Eclectic Slide

Pecha Kucha Hits Atlanta

speak your mind!

And this just in from Tokyo and London …

Yet another cool trend that you’ve never heard of.

Pecha Kucha (Japanese for “chitchat”) is a modern speaking salon focused on design, fashion, food, and new media. It’s a forum where young thinkers present and swap opinions and ideas — in brief spiels consisting of twenty twenty-second slides. (FYI: Slides are mandatory, speaking is not.)

There are three sessions this spring at Octane, so you still have time to prepare your presentation. It’s free to participate — but arrive early (45 minutes ahead) if you want a good seat. Then take in discussions about beauty pageants and business, mixology and ecodesign. Pecha Kucha rules dictate that no more than two people from the same discipline can speak each night, keeping topical burnout to a minimum.

Wouldn’t want to beat a dead hoarse.

Next event, March 9, 6:40 p.m., at Octane Coffee Bar & Lounge, 1009 Marietta Street, West Midtown (404-815-9886). To apply, e-mail submit@atlantapechakucha.com. For more information, go to atlantapechakucha.com.
