There was a little girl who had a little curl — and an arsenal of blow-dryers, glossifiers, and straightening combs to ensure that no one would ever, ever know.

Till one fateful day she rolled upon Curltopia, Kristen James, Tricia Joyner, and Flavia Medina’s new spot for girls (and boys) with textured hair.

Curltopia uses products made to coax the curl factor up rather than flatten it out. Lines like Miss Jessie’s, Carol’s Daughter, and Curls (great for biracial hair) and products for babies will keep you coming back for more than blowouts. (They do those, too.)

Twists, straw sets, and “transitioning” (going from relaxed to natural) are master stylist Tas Eubank’s specialties. Meanwhile, James has developed the C-Cut: a method of cutting with the curl pattern at any length, yielding anything but mullet-like results.

And that’s always a do do.
