Poppin’ Wheelies

When one of our fave local chefs, Rialto’s Jody Adams, divulged she was a cycling fanatic, we begged for some tips. She filled us in on what to do, see, and eat (natch) in Westport on two wheels.

Pack It In
Nab yourself a local custom-made bike, some fancy new riding knickers, and a map.

Starting Line
Drop the car in Head of Westport, a small village on Old County Road, and hit up the Head Town Landing Country Store (448 Old County Road) for ice cream. Ditch the bike and rent kayaks or pedal down Old County Road.

how does your garden grow?Loop Around
Follow Old County to Old Westport Road, then hang right on Chase Road toward Silverbrook Farms for a peek at organic growing. Head toward Russells Mills Road, down Horseneck Road to Barney’s Joy Road, turn right on Allen’s Neck, then left on Old Horseneck.

Take a Chance
Turn left on Horseneck Road for a picnic by the water or right to pick your poison at Just Beer and Westport Rivers Vineyard & Winery. Stop at both for a couple of nips and bottles to carry home.

there goes the sun!Break for It
Continue on Hixbridge Road; cross the water and Highway 88. Take a right onto Main Road to Lees Market, a solid spot for lunch.

Get ’er Done
Take a right on Old County Road and end back at Head of Wesport, park the bikes, and reward yourself with beers and a sunset at Westport Harbor.

Now that’s what we call free wheeling.
