The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Observe, class: a Claude Monet lake. Tranquil. Tranquilized. Tran

(Watercolor pupil slips off chair and into a peaceful slumber.)

Now look to accessories designer Kathryn Byrne’s delicate new capsule line. A High Museum of Art gift shop buyer (and fan) commissioned the Atlanta Printmakers Studio papermaker to design pieces in conjunction with the forthcoming Water Lilies exhibit. Shh. Shh. Don’t ruin the serenity with your charcoaling, brush-stroking din.

(Hushed tones befall the crowd — specifically muted greens, blues, pinks, and purples.)

Appreciate the process: Byrne crafts realistic petal shapes from dyed paper sheets infused with wire. Hair combs, bands, and barrettes can take up to eight hours to complete.

Talk about a masterpiece.
