Successful extreme makeovers are as rare as a day in June. (Hey there, Courtney Love.)
So when word came that the “rustic” Cape Inn was undergoing a renovation, we held our applause. Happily, the formerly shabby way station has been chicly reborn as the Harbor Hotel Provincetown with modernist decor, a restaurant and bar, and an indoor-outdoor lounge space — all at “I can swing that!” rates.
Cheer for the art- and ephemera-adorned lobby leading to 129 colorful rooms (40 have water views; twenty are pet friendly). Once settled, hit the ensconced pool area for a celebratory dip or skip across the street to the Cape Cod National Seashore.
Squeal with joy on a ten-minute road racer ride to town proper or grab the seasonal shuttle. Upon your return, snag a water-facing Adirondack at the hotel’s fire pit and order a Sweet Tart (SoCo, Chambord, sour mix, fresh lemon juice) from the spruced-up Whaler Lounge.
Then put your hands together for new beginnings.
Harbor Hotel Provincetown, 698 Commercial Street, at Snail Road, Provincetown (800-422-4224 or harborhotelptown.com). Introductory rates start at $89 through June.
