Warm Your Globe with The Third Piece

How to dress well in winter: a (not so) scientific inquiry

the third piece!

Question
Is it possible to offset New England’s tendency to throw in the fashion towel for six months? (Last week’s snowprise casts early doubt.)

Hypothesis
Chunky knit outerwear from Boston’s Third Piece provides a form-function twofer, elevating drab ensembles while providing extra warmth.

Method
Throw on usual, nondescript cold-weather garb (skinnies, black turtleneck, flat boots), then add a pocketed blanket scarf, floppy beret, or double-thick fingerless gloves. Step out into freezing world. Repeat with infinity scarf, braided headband, and padded mittens.

Results
Variance in color choice (brights, pastels, earth tones) had no deleterious effect on stylish success rate.

Conclusion
Sartorial frown turned upside down.

Available at the debut trunk show, Thursday, 7-10 p.m., at Salon Acote, 132 Newbury Street, Back Bay (617-262-5111 or salonacote.com), $40-$250. To see styles, go to the3rdpiece.com.
