Let's Talk About Petel Totes and Pillows

Pretty textiles from across the globe

Save for a few regrettable impulse buys and that brief fling with a fanny pack during a semester abroad, your handbag history is pretty tame.

Time to have a little more fun with the sack.

Get wild with pieces from Petel, a new line of cheerful totes, pillows, and home accessories created from woven fabrics by West African artisans.

Founders Julie and Ibrahima Wagne met and fell in love while working for the Peace Corps. A shared desire to find a creative way to support the Fulani tribe in Mauritania (Wagne’s home country) sparked the idea of introducing the small-batch textiles to the rest of the world.

Show off seasonal produce in the red, blue, yellow, and black satchel. Punchy table runners are an unexpected update just in time for holiday entertaining.

We believe in hue.

Available at Kappa Zakka, 460 Grove Street, between Gough and Octavia Streets (415-735-5795 or kappazakka.com); at peteldesign.com, $40-$150.
