Follain Takes Skin Care to New Heights

A whole(some) new regimen awaits

Climber (out of breath): Great oracle, I’ve hiked many a mile to seek your wisdom on the purest skin care in the world.

Oracle: Skedaddle back down and head straight for newly opened Follain in the South End. Tara Foley, a longtime natural-beauty blogger, stocks her charming brick-and-mortar with more than twenty boutique brands, all free of preservatives, parabens, and synthetic chemicals.

C: Okay, my interest is peaked. Summit up for me.

O: Foley cherry-picks her favorite products from each line and organizes them by category, so you can mix and match Shamanuti’s charcoal face cleanser with, say, Tammy Fender’s famed Epi-Peel and a potent eye cream from Dr. Alkaitis. Most can’t be found anywhere else in Boston, and many have New England roots.

C: Sounds ascendant.

O: Her below-the-neck offerings are equally on the up-and-up: Rica’s light-as-marshmallow body butter, a clear zinc sunblock from MyChelle, and Soapwalla’s deodorant cream, an instant best-seller. Hostess gifts abound, too, from Baudelaire’s sisal washcloths to organic hand soaps dispensed into reusable glass bottles. She plans to add cosmetics and hair products in the coming months.

C: Looks like I’ve found the purer path.
