You’ve improvised through many a holiday hosting snafu (Domino’s always makes for an excellent appetizer), but two words still send you reeling: alcohol shortage. Keep glasses full with home deliveries from these local purveyors.

Social Wines
Areas serviced: Throughout Boston (and quickly; we’ve received orders in well under an hour).
Cost: Free delivery for members of the store’s Social Club (sign up in store). Minimum order is $75 for South Boston, $100 for other neighborhoods.
Holiday sched: Available until 5 p.m. on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

The Urban Grape (South End and Chestnut Hill)
Areas serviced: Chestnut Hill, Newton, Brookline, Kenmore Square, South End, Back Bay, and Beacon Hill.
Cost: Free for orders over $150.
Holiday sched: Christmas Eve, until 7 p.m. at both locations. New Year’s Eve, South End, until 10 p.m.; Chestnut Hill, until 9 p.m.

Drizly iPhone App
Areas serviced: The new app developed by three BC grads guarantees delivery in 30 to 60 minutes to most of greater Boston (including Wellesley, Weston, Winchester, Woburn, and Arlington).

Holiday sched: As long as there’s an open liquor store in the area, they’ll source and deliver. Hair of the dog deliveries also available New Year’s Day.

Bauer Wine & Spirits
Areas serviced: Most of greater Boston (including Somerville, Newton, Quincy, and East Boston).
Cost: Free with minimum order ($35-$50); $15 otherwise.
Holiday sched: Until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve; submit orders two to three days in advance.
