2013 New Year’s Eve Playlist

Our favorite tracks from the year

You’re either getting primped for a night out, getting the house ready for a night in, or cursing the night altogether. Whatever the case, you’re in need of upbeat tunes. Get energized for the final countdown.

Lies,” by Chvrches
(A big ’80s-style girl-fronted group soaked in The Jesus and Mary Chain.)

All You’re Waiting For,” by Classixx feat. Nancy Whang
(Makes us want to break-dance.)

Latch,” by Disclosure feat. Sam Smith
(Queue it up during elliptical hills.)

Let Me Show You Love,” by Cut Copy
(“Free Your Mind” got the love, but this was our favorite track off the new album.)

Am I the Only One,” by Beach Day
(An 11-year-old acquaintance recently characterized this as “hippie beach music.” We think it’s better than that.)

The Sinking,” by Kissaway Trail
(An indie rock sing-along.)

Power Lines,” by Telekinesis
(The new album isn’t quite 12 Straight Desperate Lines (what is?), but this song is still catchy as all get-out.)

Reflektor,” by Arcade Fire
(It’s vintage Arcade Fire crossed with LCD Soundsystem.)

Put a Light On,” by Generationals
(We spent all year afraid this song would end up in a Subaru commercial — fears dashed, thankfully).

Treason! Animals.,” by Franz Ferdinand
(Remember these guys? Turns out they’re still putting out great records.)

Okay,” by Holy Ghost
(A happier Depeche Mode track.)

Pointbreak,” by Ashrae Fax
(Far more enduring than its cinematic namesake.)
