Cocktail Recipes for Your Oscars Party

Seth Freidus shakes up two drinks for the big night

oscars cocktails!

By now, Cate, Lupita, and the rest of them are well into their kale juice-and-oxygen awards season diets. Which means come Sunday night, you need to drink in their place.

Seth Freidus, bar manager at Alden & Harlow, whipped us up two broadcast-worthy cocktails. One toasts the stars (tip: this highbrow recipe needs advance prep time), while the other pays tribute to the home-viewing hoi polloi (that’s us).

The Podium
Serves one

Spritz of rosemary ginger essence (see recipe below)
1 oz. Pierre Ferrand 1840 Original Formula Grande Champagne cognac
1 oz. Rittenhouse rye
1 oz. Carpano Antica sweet vermouth
1 bar spoon green chartreuse

Rosemary Essence

1 bottle 151 proof neutral grain spirit
10 sprigs fresh rosemary
3½ oz. fresh peeled or sliced ginger

1. Infuse for five days in an airtight container.

For the cocktail

1. Using an atomizer, lace a chilled cocktail glass with the rosemary ginger essence.

2. Stir remaining ingredients in a cocktail shaker and strain into the glass.

The Backseat
Serves one

1½ oz. Fighting Cock bourbon
¾ oz. Demerara syrup
¾ oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 dashes Cholula hot sauce
1 bottle Notch Session Pils

1. Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and pour into a pint glass.

2. Top with a splash of pilsner.

Now put on your best sequined pj’s.
