We ask a lot of man’s best friend. He’s our therapist, our exercise partner, and on a bad night, our backup date. But fashion muse? Not so much.

One exception: The new spring handbags by M. Flynn — an impressive first foray into bags by the locally based Flynn sisters, previously known for their jewelry designs. The standout design in their new collection is the shar-pei bag — inspired by the supple, gorgeously soft and wrinkly coats of the dog breed, given solid form by meticulously stitched construction and beautifully textured Argentine leather.

One big difference between the canine and the bag? The colors. Odds are you won’t see shar-peis padding around in shades of lemon, pistachio, salmon, and petal pink. Likewise, you don’t see many pups as well-groomed as this smart little tote.
