But not anymore, thanks to Boston designer Laura Preshong’s collection of rings, necklaces, and bracelets. The line, a rich mix of handblown glass beads and silver called Umbilical Glass, brings to mind what your cute little belly button might resemble if it were a piece of jewelry.

With their slightly trippy dot motif, the designs look contemporary, but they’re created using the ancient Italian murrini process, which calls for layering molten, pigmented glass then sculpting, cooling, cutting, and tumbling it. Each of the many styles can be crafted with your choice of twenty beads.
