Novel Romance

Our society talks an awful lot about romance. You know: true love, unconditional love, unrequited love, and seemingly every other form of the stuff.

Except, that is, for funky love. And edgy love. And love with attitude. Don’t hear much about those, do you? But ask those who pride themselves on individuality and they’ll tell you: That’s the stuff that keeps fresh adventure from becoming sappy cliche.

No surprise, then, that the same goes for romantic dressing. Give spring’s full skirts a little edge — like Sigal Dekel’s tulle underskirts, for example — and suddenly you’re wearing something far more interesting. Dekel, the young Israeli designer whose spring collection just arrived at Turtle boutique, has packed her latest with innovative but wearable dresses (part sheer, part ruffled) and bright, flowy pants with asymmetrical details.

Sweet? Sure. Saccharine? Not even close.

Just the kind of wardrobe you could fall madly in love with. Funky love, that is.

Available at Turtle, 619 Tremont Street, between Dartmouth and West Canton Streets (617-266-2610).
