You know when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie?
Those nights are fine, but sometimes the mood calls for Italian romance — without the spaghetti-with-red-sauce vibe.
That’s when you head straight to Mare, the just-opened, organic seafood-centric spot in the North End, brought to you by the folks behind Bricco (another decidedly non-red-sauce-but-still-fab-Italian joint). The walk to and from Mare (Italian for “sea”) will provide plenty of that old-world Napoli vibe, but inside it’s more Miami than Little Italy: all trendy modernity from the food to the decor (lots of glass, TV screens, and ocean motifs).
Homemade pasta (in unintimidating portions) mingles with fresh seafood, and there’s an adventurous antipasto made entirely of creatures from the deep. Want the world to shine like you’ve had too much wine? Check out Mare’s list; it’s got plenty of organic bottles to sample.
And, should you feel so inclined, we’re certain you can find a pizza place nearby to pick up a pie to eat cold the next morning.
Mare, 135 Richmond Street, at North Street, North End (617-723-6273).
