Eyes Wide Open
What: Volunteer to help set up the powerful exhibit honoring the 2,000 American soldiers who have fallen in Iraq.
Why: You don’t know from scary.
When: Sign up before Nov. 1, when the exhibit opens.
Where: Register with American Friends Service Committee (617-661-6130 or afsc.org).

The Bow Wow Ball
What: Dress your pup for Halloween and enter the costume contest to benefit the MSPCA.
Why: Canine couture.
When: Thurs., 8-10 p.m.
Where: Hurricane O’Reilly’s, 150 Canal St. (617-541-5096).

BUY
Nanette Lepore Opening

What: Test your will against nigh-irresistible wintery duds in Lepo’s brand new boutique.
Why: Pretty. Darn cute.
When: Thurs. & Fri., 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sun., noon-5 p.m.

Jazz at Intrigue

What: Johnny Souza and the Ray Santisi Trio play with the Herb Pomeroy Quartet.
Why: Music therapy.

The Vampires’ Masquerade Ball

What: Countess Bathoria opens her lair for a slightly morbid, slightly sexy soiree.
Why: It’s bloody great.
When: Sat., 8:30 p.m.
