Trash Talking

Ekologic Recycled Clothing

Some people take the concept of dumpster chic just a few steps too far.

Let’s just call them, oh, hmm, “Mary-Kate.”

Yet there are those who, strangely, can make it work. Like Ekologic, a clothing company dedicated to making new fashions out of recycled clothing. Using scraps of preloved cashmere sweaters, they create entirely new designs. (Okay, so they’re not exactly rummaging around in trash cans.)

Women’s styles feature skirts and sweaters of earthy, striped patterns. Add individual flair with cuffs and collars (made, we suspect, from the neck of turtlenecks — ingenious!). Keep warm with pretty hats, scarves, mittens, and socks.

The resulting effect is earthy but not dirty, resourceful but not junky.

Hipster, you might say, but not dumpster.
